POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:
GIRARD
Aug. 17
Breaking and entering: Someone broke a window, entered McQuaid’s Sunoco gas station, 307 S. State St., and ransacked the business.
Theft: A woman noticed numerous prescription medications missing from her home in the 10 block of North State Street.
Aug. 18
Criminal damaging: A car in the 200 block of Trumbull Avenue was found with three broken windows, including the windshield. Damage came to $800.
Trespassing: A South Randolph Street man reported another man continually enters the accuser’s property, despite having been asked to stay off.
Aggravated menacing: A charge was pending against a man after a woman said she returned to her South Randolph Street apartment and found two threatening notes on her door.
Menacing: A woman told authorities another driver threatened to harm her after apparently cutting her off in traffic in a construction zone near U.S. Route 422 and Interstate 80.
Aug. 19
Theft: An East Howard Street man reported a .40-caliber pistol stolen from his car.
Arson: Police assisted firefighters with a car fire in the 300 block of Forsythe Avenue. It appeared that rags had been soaked in some type of oil, then set on fire and placed in the vehicle, a police report said.
Menacing: An Elruth Court man and his girlfriend reported getting ongoing threatening calls as well as voice and text messages.
Aug. 20
Criminal mischief: Someone in the 500 block of North Avenue threw coffee on a vehicle.
Aggravated menacing: A Trumbull Avenue man reported another man has been making a series of threats against him.
Arrest: Officers charged a 16-year-old Girard boy with reckless operation of a motor vehicle and failing to comply with police after getting complaints about an erratic driver on a four-wheel vehicle. The teen had exceeded the speed limit and initially refused to stop for authorities, a report showed.
HUBBARD
Aug. 16
Possible theft: Several vehicles in the 600 block of West Park Avenue were found with their gas tanks open.
Theft: A catalytic converter was removed from a car in the 100 block of Youngstown-Hubbard Road.
Theft: A woman reported her son’s cellphone stolen near Erie Street.
Aug. 18
Criminal mischief: Someone wrote on a vehicle in the 100 block of Forest Hill Drive.
Aug. 19
Theft: An East Liberty Street woman discovered $6,000 worth of jewelry missing from her car.
Possible drugs: Police received a report of possible drug sales in the township.
Aug. 20
Criminal mischief: An Elizabeth Street woman reported someone moved her air-conditioning unit without permission.
Aug. 21
Possible breaking and entering: A woman discovered damage to the garage door of her father’s Hager Street home and thought someone may have gained entry to the residence.
LIBERTY
Aug. 17
Assault: A man in an argument with another driver on Belmont Avenue told police the motorist grabbed and slammed his arm against the accuser’s vehicle’s door, then left in a green pickup truck.
Aug. 18
Counterfeit: A woman in her 30s passed two phony $50 bills at a Speedway gas station, 4210 Belmont Ave.
Theft: A Pennsylvania woman discovered numerous items had been removed from her purse as she patronized several Belmont Avenue stores.
Assault: A North Gate Road woman said that her daughter was struck in the leg with a plastic baseball bat as the girl roller-skated in the neighborhood.
Criminal damaging: Police charged 18-year-old Gerald M. Wainwright, 211 Colonial Drive, Youngstown, with criminal damaging and aggravated trespassing after accusing him of kicking in the front door to a township residence. He was released on a personal recognizance bond.
Aug. 19
Arrest: Michael D. McQueen, 39, of 128 W. Evergreen Ave., Youngstown, was arrested at the Mahoning County jail on a probation-violation charge from the township.
Trespassing: Police responded to a person panhandling for money in the 3900 block of Belmont Avenue, then cited 48-year-old Paul F. Hartman of Denver on a criminal-trespassing charge. Hartman had been asked to leave the property but returned, a report said.
Arrest: A traffic stop near Gypsy Lane resulted in the arrest of 26-year-old Jasmine M. Barnes, 249 Alameda Ave., Youngstown, who was wanted on a township warrant. Barnes also was charged with having fictitious license plates and no operator’s license.
Theft/drugs: Michael L. Atyim, 37, of 17530 Mill Road, Berlin Center, faced a felony drug-abuse count as well as misdemeanor charges of theft and interference with custody after clothing had been stolen from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, Atyim, who police said had a 17-year-old girl without her mother’s permission, also had a white powder in his car that tested positive for cocaine, a report showed.
Arrest: Police picked up Jennifer N. Zackasee, 28, at Northside Medical Center, Youngstown. Zackasee, of 88 Hilton Ave., Youngstown, was accused of failing to appear for a violation-of-probation hearing.
Aug. 20
Arrest: Officers dealing with a verbal dispute in the 200 block of Catherine Street took 50-year-old Cascinda L. Kleese, 222 Catherine, into custody. Kleese was wanted by Weathersfield Township police on a warrant.
Arrest: Authorities at the Mahoning County jail booked 56-year-old Melvin Howell Sr., 38 Steel St., Youngstown on a township warrant charging him with failure to appear in court.
Aug. 21
Theft: A clerk at a Logan Way business reported the theft of a $770 cellphone.
Arrest: Officers pulled over a vehicle on Logan Way, where they arrested 26-year-old Anthony M. Palestro, 7340 Redwood Drive, Hubbard, on a charge of driving under the influence.
Breaking and entering: Two men were caught on a surveillance camera entering Conroy’s Xpress, 4446 Logan Way, carrying a garbage can and filling it with an unknown quantity of cigarettes.
