No problems in sewers before flood

The Pittsburgh agency in charge of water and sewer matters says an inspection by underground cameras of the sewers last month turned up no indication of problems that could have led to the flooding that claimed the lives of four people last week.

But newspaper stories over the past half-century have indicated a history of flooding problems on the same stretch of roadway, including reports of a previous case in which a motorist drowned in a car.

The Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority said Monday that an inspection by underground cameras after serious flooding last month found “nothing was clogged or broken.” Solutions the authority is examining include emergency closures or even raising the roadway.
