Mahoning Valley splits doubleheader at Batavia

BATAVIA, N.Y.
Cody Elliott hit a pair of doubles and drove in two runs to lead the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to an 11-3 victory over the Batavia Muckdogs in the second game of a New York-Penn League doubleheader on Monday night.
The Scrappers fell in the first game, 3-2, in eight innings.
Bryson Myles added a double, three RBIs and his 17th stolen base of the season, as Mahoning Valley had only eight hits, but three runs scored on sacrifice flies.
The Scrappers are now 34-38, while Batavia improved to 29-32. Mahoning Valley plays host to Auburn in the start of a three-game series at Eastwood Field tonight.
KC Serna had three RBIs for the Scrappers in the nightcap, and Danny Jiminez (3-3) allowed six hits and two earned runs over six innings.
The Scrappers scored five runs in the top of the first inning. Todd Hankins drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly, then Alex Lavisky had a RBI single. Elliott’s first double made it 3-0, and Serna’s two-run single finished the rally.
In the opener, Batavia rallied from a 2-1 deficit by scoring the tying run in the bottom of the sixth and the winning run in the eighth. With one out, Romulo Ruiz walked and scored on a double by Jeremy Patton.
Zachary McPhee led the Scrappers with a double and single, and he scored a run.
