An attorney for a former Ohio legislator charged with drunken driving in Indiana says his client has agreed to plead guilty to a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Attorney Robert Ewbank said Monday that former Ohio state Rep. Robert Mecklenborg is expected to enter his plea Thursday in a Dearborn County court in Lawrenceburg, Ind. Ewbank says Mecklenborg is expected to be sentenced to a year’s probation and could have his driver’s license suspended in Indiana.
The 59-year-old Cincinnati-area Republican was arrested April 23 in Lawrenceburg by an Indiana state trooper. Court and arrest records show Mecklenborg failed several sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.097 percent. The level for drunk driving in Indiana is 0.08.
Mecklenborg resigned from the Ohio House on Aug. 2.
