CARD, BINGO PARTIES
WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church) members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 388 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown, will host a bingo day with prizes for every game from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $5 and includes bingo and a variety of salads for lunch. Tickets also will be sold for a 50/50 raffle, as well as other items. St. Joseph the Provider Infant Jesus of Prague Guild will host a bingo and card party starting at 2 p.m. Sept. 18 in the church hall, 633 Porter Ave., Campbell. CAR SHOWS
Highway Tabernacle Church of Austintown will have its annual car, truck and bike fest from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. Registration is on-site, by donation. Proceeds benefit the Royal Ranger program.
Fowler Township Historical Society will have an Antique Car, Truck and Tractor Show and basket auction from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Fowler Center, corner of state Routes 193 and 305. The drawing for the auction will begin at 3 p.m. The event will include music and food, and the Butts Museum will be open. No entrance fee will be charged for cars. Donations will be accepted. CRAFT SHOWS
Shepherd of the Valley-Poland, 301 W. Western Reserve Road, is seeking vendors for its annual Family Fall Fest & Craft Show set for Sept. 24. To rent a space call the office at 330-726-7110 ext. 0. This year’s event will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature outdoor activities such as a bounce-around, face painting and music. Proceeds benefit resident activities.
Queen of the Holy Rosary Church will have a craft show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 15 at the church, 291 Scoville Drive, Vienna. Crafters and vendors are needed; cost is $20 per 8-foot table. DANCES
Portage County Chapter 600 of International Parents Without Partners will have its monthly dance from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Sept. 3 at Kent VFW 3703 post home, 500 VFW Parkway, off Stow Road, in Kent. Music will be by disc jockey Mel, and the theme is “Back to School Days Sock Hop.” The public is welcome. Cost is $6 for members, $8 for nonmembers. The event will include a basket raffle. Also planned is a picnic Sept. 5 at Kent VFW Post pavilion, also open to nonmembers. Take a covered dish to share. FLEA MARKETS
Salem Memorial Building Association is hosting its annual indoor fall yard sale/flea market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 24 in the gym. Eight-foot tables with chairs can be reserved for $10 per table. Immaculate Heart of Mary will have a Treasures in Your Trunk sale, sponsored by its Social Concerns Group, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 10. The sale will take place in the church parking lot, 4500 Norquest Blvd., Austintown. Vendor spaces are available for early registration at $10; must be received by Sept. 8. Vendors may register for $15 the day of the sale. No refunds will be given for any reason. Take your own table (up to 8 feet) for setting up in front of your trunk. There will be a sale of homemade baked goods, food and beverages. A used book and media sale will take place in the parish center at the same time. SPECIAL EVENTS
Youngstown American-Hungarian Club will have its 26th annual Hungarian Heritage Day from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 11 at the clubhouse, 2219 Donald Ave., Youngstown. Authentic Hungarian folk art, music and food, including Hungarian goulash, stuffed cabbage, stuffed peppers, chicken dinner, haluski, kielbasa and sauerkraut, and various pastries, including crepes and dobos torta, will be available. A boutique will be stocked with Hungarian preserves, spices, noodles, clothing, books, cards and more. The Hungarians of Cleveland will be playing both American and Hungarian favorites. Youngstown Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Epsilon Mu Omega and Delta Delta are sponsoring a bus trip to Washington, D.C., Saturday and Sunday to the dedication ceremony of Martin Luther King Jr.’s National Memorial. The bus will depart at 7 a.m. Saturday from McDonald’s on Belmont Avenue and will depart Washington for Youngstown at 4 p.m. Sunday.
