Community Fellowship Church of God will be giving away book bags Saturday at 4125 Lanterman Drive from 11 a.m. until all the bags are gone. A child must be present to get the bag.

Slippery Rock, Pa.

Jennings Environmental Education Center and the Slippery Rock Watershed Coalition are seeking volunteers willing to “Adopt-A- Passive Treatment System” by assisting with the monitoring and maintenance of several abandoned-mine drainage passive-treatment systems located within the headwaters of Slippery Rock Creek.

Primary responsibilities will be to conduct basic water monitoring using simple field-test kits, inspect the systems and enter the information into an Internet database.

Volunteers will be asked to visit one or more passive-system locations in northern Butler County on a monthly basis.

Water-quality test kits and training on using the test kits, conducting the inspections and using the online database will be provided.
