Patton’s RBI double in sixth inning helps Muckdogs defeat Mahoning Valley

BATAVIA, N.Y.

Jeremy Patton’s two-out RBI double in the sixth inning helped the Batavia Muckdogs defeat the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 5-4, on Saturday.

The Scrappers (33-26) trail the Auburn Doubledays by three games in the Pinckney Division standings.

Patton’s double came a half-inning after the Scrappers had scored twice for a 3-3 tie.

Scrappers reliever Harold Guerrero (2-4, 6.39 earned-run average) replaced starter Will Roberts in the bottom of the sixth inning and was tagged for both runs and the loss.

After the Muckdogs’ Garrett Wittles led off with a single, Robert Reyes doubled. Wittles scored on a groundout and Reyes came home on Patton’s double.

In the seventh inning, the Scrappers sliced the Muckdogs’ lead in half when Bryson Myles scored on Jordan Smith’s sacrifice fly.

The Scrappers’ first run was scored in the fifth inning when Alex Lavisky scored on a two-out double by Myles.

Roberts gave up a run in each of the first, second and fourth innings as the Scrappers fell behind, 3-0.

Scrappers designated hitter Jake Lowery hit two doubles while Todd Hankins had one.
