This year marks the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in the United States.

Houses of worship planning special services are asked to submit information by 5 p.m. Aug. 31. Information will be published Sept. 3.

Observance planned

Austintown Baptist Church, 1180 S. Raccoon Road, will observe “Back to Church Sunday” during a service at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 28.

Pastor Chuck Cole said church is a good place for children to learn moral values, and studies show attending church makes people healthier and happier.

A free breakfast will be provided from 9 to 10 a.m.

Guest speaker

New Life Church, 2250 E. Western Reserve Road, will host speaker Rose Mapendo from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 27.

Mapendo is a Congolese death-camp survivor, a human-rights advocate and promoter of global peace. She was honored by the White House, and in 2009 she was named the Human-itarian of the Year by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Scholarship award

The Interdenominational Clergywomen’s Alliance Inc. will present the Rev. Elizabeth Powell Scholarship Award at 5 p.m. Aug. 28 at Christ Dwelling Place Church, 3048 Gerwig Ave., where the Rev. Alice Bell Parkman is pastor.

The recipient will be named at that time.

Speaker will be the Rev. Kenneth Simon, pastor of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Program theme is “God’s Purpose for Your Life.”

Concert, revival

JP Miller, Southern Gospel recording artist, will be in concert at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Liberty Community Church, 1729 Tibbetts Wick Road. He was also a founding member of the trio First Love.

A summer revival is planned next week with services at 7 p.m. From Monday through Wednesday, evangelist and Pastor Troy Ervin of King’s Way Fellowship in Batavia, will be featured speaker. He wrote several books and is the host of “Life Change” television broadcast.

Four Fold of Scotts Hill, Tenn., will present a concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Bible Church, 2878 Warren- Meadville Road.

Since 1997, the recording group has traveled across the United States and abroad.

A nursery will be provided.

Duo performance

Dust and Ashes, the duo of MaryLou Troutman and Tom Page, will perform Sunday at Smith Corners United Methodist Church, 3000 S. Canfield Niles Road.

Worship will be at 10:45 a.m. and concert at 7 p.m.

Troutman and Page, who are married, have recorded 13 albums.

Education workshop

Greater Friendship Baptist Church, 646 Lakewood Ave., will host an in-service Christian education workshop Sept. 10 for Sunday-school teachers, Christian-education instructors, youth workers and lay people.

Elder Rose Carter is Christian education director, and the Rev. James Bowie is pastor.

The workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the theme “Apply God’s Word through the Teaching Ministry.” Registration will be from 8:30 to 9.

A registration fee of $10 includes breakfast and lunch.

Deadline to register is Sept. 2.

Faith 180 Fest

GARRETTSVILLE

Faith 180 Fest, a day of music and other activities, will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Garrettsville Village Park, 10482 South St.

The fundraiser will help the Faith 180 youth group at Vineyard Church to attend this year’s Acquire the Fire event and to pay for other outreach efforts.

Donations will be accepted.

The music lineup includes the Vineyard Praise & Worship Team, Rachell Joy, McCabeBand, Kelly Williams, Emmaus (Fred Lee), Ashes to Oak (Julia Ciferno) and Jenah Ross-Shank.

There also will be children’s activities, a prayer tent, silent auction and free food.
