Poland, Youngstown Lutheran churches join for worship

Parishioners of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Youngstown joined with those of Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran in Poland for worship and a picnic on Aug. 7.

Pastor Paul Heine of Martin Luther preached and Pastor Julianne Smith of Prince of Peace presided over the Eucharist. There were 127 present for worship.

Various fun activities followed the picnic, including water games, line dancing, karaoke and kite making. Coordinators for the event were Amy Hamaker and Mindy Caspary.

These two congregations have a relationship which goes back to March 1959 when Martin Luther church voted to give a gift of $100 to the former American Lutheran Church for a Poland Mission Church. In 2009, Martin Luther church celebrated 150 years of ministry and Prince of Peace celebrated 50 years of ministry.
