“Here we go Canfield, here we go!”

That cheer could be heard over and over from approximately 165 girls ages 3 to 13 during the 21st annual Canfield High School Cheerleaders’ Cheer Camp Aug. 9-10.

Head cheerleading coach Mallory Naffah and assistant coach Sable Beshara supervised the camp, which included freshmen to senior Canfield High School cheerleaders who taught the girls fundamentals, including conditioning and stretching, basic cheer skills and jumps and motions.

The girls were divided into age groups and taught a cheer and a dance, based on their age. The 3-year-old girls learned the Cookie Monster cheer, while the eighth-grade girls were taught a more complex dance.

To showcase their talents and what the girls learned at the two-day camp, a demonstration was held at the end of the second day, during which each group performed a dance or cheer for their parents and fellow attendees.

The Canfield High School junior varsity and varsity cheerleaders also performed. The varsity squad performed their dance which earned them second place at AmeriCheer, a camp the cheerleaders attended at the University of Akron. The cheerleaders also earned top squad and superior ratings while at AmeriCheer.

“We see a great future for Canfield Schools and what great cheerleaders these young girls are going to be one day for Canfield,” said Naffah and Beshara.
