Tot’s scrubbed face leads to assault charge

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — A central Pennsylvania mother is charged with assault over injuries police say her toddler suffered when she harshly scrubbed his face.

The Centre Daily Times of State College reports 26-year-old Tasha Hillard was bound over for trial Wednesday for allegedly injuring the 3-year-old boy after he made a mess with nail polish.

Prosecutors say Hillard held the boy’s neck so tight that she ruptured blood vessels and caused facial injuries with intense scrubbing after he got the polish on his face on June 21.

Police say Hillard acknowledged her anger played a role in the boy’s injuries.

Hillard’s attorney sought dismissal of the charges, saying his client had a duty to remove the nail polish.

The Centre Daily Times report says the boy is in custody of county officials.
