MRI accreditation

MRI accreditation

BOARDMAN

Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley has received a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

An MRI is a noninvasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of the body to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.

The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 34,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health-care services.

New location

GREENVILLE, PA.

The UPMC Horizon Medical Equipment Recycling Program (MERP) has opened a new location at 103 N. Main St. across from UPMC Horizon’s Greenville campus. The program collects and refurbishes used medical equipment and distributes it to those who lack insurance or cannot afford to purchase new medical equipment.

MERP also has an office in Farrell adjacent to UPMC Horizon Shenango Valley.

New pacing system

WARREN

St. Joseph Health Center recently installed the Revo MRI/¢ SureScan Æ pacing system, the first MR-Conditional pacing system designed, tested and FDA approved for use in the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) environment.

Before the Revo MRI SureScan pacing system, MRI procedures for patients with implanted pacemakers were not recommended because they might face serious complications, such as interference with pacemaker operation, damage to system components, or lead or pacemaker dislodgement.

New model of care

SHARON, PA.

Sharon Regional Health System has implemented a new model-of-care delivery in its Emergency Care Center known as PhysicianFirst, which places the physician at the beginning of the emergency-care treatment process, resulting in significant improvements in patient care and safety.

Through the PhysicianFirst program, emergency patients are first seen by a board certified emergency-medicine physician who makes a rapid assessment and immediately orders any necessary tests and care orders, even before registration occurs, said Dr. Michael Garfinkel, director of emergency medicine.
