Man accused of shooting Ohio worker spraying mosquitoes

NEWARK, Ohio (AP) — A man accused of shooting at a truck spraying mosquitoes and injuring the driver has been charged with felonious assault.

Newark police say 56-year-old David B. Brown was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly fired several shots at the truck Aug. 10. Police say the 71-year-old Licking County worker was injured when at least one round fired at his vehicle grazed his leg.

Court records do not show an attorney for Brown.

Police Sgt. Scott Snow told The Advocate of Newark that Brown, of Newark, told police he was trying to protect his dog from the spray. Snow says the spray does not harm pets.

County officials say the spraying was done after a mosquito-trap site revealed the presence of West Nile virus in the central Ohio area.
