Accused pirate negotiator faces additional charges

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A man accused of negotiating ransoms on behalf of Somali pirates in the hijacking of a yacht where four Americans were killed has been indicted for his alleged role in another hostage-taking.

Mohammad Saaili Shibin already is accused of piracy, kidnapping and weapons charges for his alleged role in the February hijacking of the Quest off the coast of Africa.

Prosecutors have called the Somali man the biggest catch in the U.S. battle against piracy.

U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride said today the latest indictment involves another hijacking on a separate vessel, when 22 hostages were held for ransom by Somali pirates. MacBride didn’t immediately specify the charges but said a news conference was set for later today.
