YSU negotiations
YSU negotiations
YOUNGSTOWN
Negotiations are expected to continue Friday morning between Youngstown State University and the union representing its faculty.
Talks on Tuesday didn’t produce a resolution.
The union issued an intent-to-strike notice Monday after YSU trustees Friday rejected a fact-finder’s report regarding a contract.
The report recommended increased health-insurance contributions by union members and raise of 0 percent, 1 percent and 2 percent in the first through third years of a pact, respectively.
The notice authorizes a strike beginning Aug. 26 if the two sides fail to reach an agreement by then. Classes are set to begin Aug. 29.
“We’re talking, and we have demonstrated a willingness to work with the board [of trustees] to build a reasonable contract,” faculty union president Julia Gergits said in a statement. “The end goal is to get a contract our members can accept.”
Bracelets stolen
Boardman
Township police are searching for the man who stole two bracelets from a local jewelry store.
About 5:45 p.m. Monday a man entered LeRoy’s Jewelry store at the Southern Park Mall and asked to see two bracelets, according to a police report.
The man, described as black, 27 to 33 years old, wearing a plain black shirt, shorts and baseball cap, reportedly tried one of the bracelets on and held the other in his hand before fleeing the store with the merchandise, the report said.
Mall security told police they saw a man matching the description run through the exit near Buffalo Wild Wings, northbound through the parking lot.
Dinner rescheduled
Warren
The Greater Warren-Youngstown Urban League’s annual dinner featuring Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth as keynote speaker has been rescheduled from Friday to Nov. 3. The event will still be at McMenamy’s in Niles at 6 p.m.
Tickets are available at the league’s offices at 290 W. Market St., Warren, and 16 Wick Ave., Suite 505, Youngstown.
Seeking information
YOUNGSTOWN
Fire investigators said Tuesday they already have one suspect in last weekend’s rash of arsons on the city’s East and West sides.
Four vacant-house fires blazed through the city Saturday night into Sunday morning — two of which rekindled, reports state.
Fires broke out on Salt Springs Road, Steel Street, Cornwall Street and East High Avenue. Authorities said no injuries were reported.
Investigators said they believe the two fires on the West Side are connected, but stressed they are still looking for more information about all the weekend fires.
