Trumbull County engineer will take oath of office

Staff report

WARREN

Randy Smith, who was chosen to serve as Trumbull County engineer for the next 17 months, will take the oath of office around 11 a.m. today in the county courthouse.

Smith, of Hartford Township, was deputy engineer under former county engineer John Latell for 10 years. Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Andrew Logan will administer the oath.

Smith replaces David DeChristofaro, who was forced to resign last month as part of the plea agreement he reached with prosecutors who accused him of using county resources and personnel to carry out personal and campaign-related tasks.

DeChristofaro pleaded guilty to felony theft in Judge Logan’s court last month to conclude the criminal case against him.

Meanwhile, John Picuri, who had served as deputy engineer under DeChristofaro and was appointed interim county engineer after DeChristofaro’s resignation, has resigned from the county engineer’s office.

Picuri, whose resignation was effective Friday, began his duties Monday working for the District 4 office of the Ohio Department of Transportation in Akron.
