Toledo Zoo's 52-year-old chimpanzee dies

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Officials at the Toledo Zoo are mourning the loss of a 52-year-old chimpanzee named Harvey.

They say Harvey died today of natural causes and that heart disease was a factor in his death.

The zoo says Harvey was thought to be the third-oldest male chimpanzee in any U.S. zoo.

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums puts the median life expectancy for a chimpanzee at 26 years for males and 35 years for females.

Zoo director Anne Baker says Harvey was a part of their family.
