Thieves take doors, window from church in 2 thefts

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia church has been broken into twice in the last two weeks with thieves first making off with the rectory doors then returning to steal the transom window above the missing doors.

Father James Cox tells KYW-TV the doors were taken from the Holy Cross Church rectory on August 7, then earlier this week someone removed the transom window that had capped the doors along with other items.

The church puts the total value of the missing items at more than $40,000.

Cox says he suspects the thieves were targeting specific items because many other things were left untouched.

A parishioner tells the station the church has been hit before, with thieves taking copper downspouts and brass light fixtures.
