Services to be held for slain Pa. officer

FREEMANSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Law enforcement officials from across the region will join family members to mourn the death of a Pennsylvania police officer killed in the line of duty last week.

A private funeral service is planned this morning for Freemansburg police Officer Robert Lasso, followed by a public service at Northampton County Community College in Bethlehem.

The 31-year-old Lasso was shot in the head last week while investigating a domestic disturbance report. Forty-six-year-old George Hitcho Jr. is in custody charged in his death.

Hitcho allegedly fired on Lasso after the officer pointed a stun gun at his dogs. He is being held without bail at Northampton County Prison.

Lasso is survived by his wife and two young children.
