Cab driver fatally shot in Summit County
NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in northeast Ohio say a suspect has been arrested in the shooting death of a cab driver, who was killed while sitting in his taxi in a parking lot.
The chief investigator with the Summit County medical examiner’s office says in a statement that 61-year-old Jerry Laury, of Canton, was pronounced dead at the scene Sunday evening in New Franklin, southeast of Akron.
New Franklin police Sgt. Jeff Hagen tells Cleveland’s WJW-TV the cab driver was on duty when he was shot multiple times.
Police say when officers arrived they were confronted by another man, who was arrested without incident. It’s not clear if he and Laury knew each other.
Hagen said the suspect was expected to appear in court today on a charge of aggravated murder.
