Warren schools mentor
William R. Young of Austintown recently received his doctorate of education in teacher leadership from Walden University in Minnesota.
Young is a teacher and mentor at Warren City School District.
A native of Berlin Center, he is the son of the late Robert and Wilma Young of Berlin Center and was a graduate of Western Reserve High School in 1994.
His doctoral study dissertation was “The Effects of Arts Integration Professional Development on Teaching.” He plans to pursue a career in online higher education.
Gateway administrator
Dorothy Bowers Collins of Boardman graduated with a doctorate in education from Capella University in Minneapolis. She is a 1984 graduate of Youngstown East High School and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Youngstown State University. Bowers Collins is the director of student support services/academic advising and an adjunct instructor at Eastern Gateway Community College in Steubenville, which now has expanded services in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
Bower Collins is the all-time leading YSU women’s basketball scorer with 2,324 points from 1984 to 1988 and also holds other basketball records. The university has retired her jersey number 33.
Bowers Collins, her husband, David, and two children, Doriyon and David, live in Boardman. She is the daughter of Ada Bowers Hill and the late Tyrone Moore.
