Free all-day concert rocks the downtown

The day-long music festival Vex Fest8 will be today in downtown Youngstown. A total of 57 bands will play from noon to 2 a.m. at various venues. There is no admission charge. To accommodate the festival, North Phelps Street between Commerce and West Federal streets will be closed, as will West Federal between Market and North Phelps.

The Brownlee Woods Neighborhood Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fairview Arts and Outreach Center, 4220 Youngstown-Poland Road. A social and refreshment time begins at 6 p.m. Discussions will focus on upcoming events and projects.
Mayor Charles P. Sammarone will speak about his vision and plans for the city. Councilman John R. Swierz, D-7th, will attend to address neighborhood issues.
Farmers market set

A farmers market open to employees, visitors and the public will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, 8401 Market St., in the grassy area behind the hospital off McClurg Road.
The Lake-to-River Food Cooperative, which Humility of Mary Health Partners recently joined as an institutional buyer, will sell locally grown produce and meat. Food served in the cafeterias on the day of the farmers market will include hamburgers from locally grown, grass-fed, hormone- and antibiotic-free beef.
HMHP officials said the purpose of the farmers markets is to give employees and visitors an opportunity to buy locally grown produce and meat in a convenient location.
Howland robbery

Police are investigating a Saturday morning bank robbery. A robbery at First Place Bank, 8226 E. Market St., was first reported about 11 a.m. to Trumbull County dispatchers. Initial reports state that a man entered the bank and passed a note demanding money and left the scene in a van. The man appeared to be unarmed, according to reports. No other information was available.
