Guests to the Poland library used their imaginations to travel down the mighty Nile River and explore the pyramids of ancient kings on July 14.

Assisted by Poland librarians and many books in the library, families attending the event had the chance to explore the culture of ancient Egypt.

When guests arrived at the facility, they received an Egyptian headdress, or a loose piece of cloth that protected the young readers from the sun and sand on their imaginary trip.

The group enjoyed the reading of Tomie dePaola’s “Bill and Pete Go Down the Nile,” became archeologists as they searched for mummies and played bingo where players identified Egyptian art, architecture and artifacts.

Lots of laughter was shared during the mummy wrap, where a team wrapped up a friend in an entire roll of toilet paper.

Polk, Pa., native Katie Boal attended the event with her grandma, Boardman’s Peggy Comerford. Boal wore a yellow shirt that said “Egypt” during the event that was a gift from her grandma thanks to a recent trip to the country.

“As someone who has really been to Egypt, I can say that the library is doing a wonderful job. They definitely honored the culture of the country and gave the kids the Egyptian experience,” shared Comerford.
