Cavaliers plan talent tryouts at Covelli

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Lake Erie Monsters and the Cavs’ new NBA D-League team in Canton are coming to Youngstown to find entertainers to perform the national anthem at games.

Auditions will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 10 at Covelli Centre for vocalists and brass musicians as part of the National Anthem Talent Tour.

Registration is free and open to vocal and brass soloists, duets, trios and quartets of all ages.

Applicants under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The first 100 preregistered and the first 100 walk-up candidates will be guaranteed an audition.

Candidates will be asked to perform a traditional, a cappella rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” within a 90-second time frame.

All auditions will be taped and considered for future performances.

The tour also will visit Sandusky, Cleveland and Canton.

Judges will select three finalists from each city and post each candidate’s audition video on cavs.com, where fans will have a week to vote for their favorite act.

The winners from each city will perform the national anthem before a Cleveland Cavaliers, Lake Erie Monsters or Canton D-League game, or before a Quicken Loans Arena event.

Audition applicants must arrive at least an hour early for registration and check-in.

For more information, and to complete a registration form, go to cavs.com/anthem or contact the Game Entertainment Hotline at 216-420-2154.

Preregistration is recommended, and must be submitted at least 24 hours before the audition date.
