The Youngstown Chapter of The Links Inc. will officially welcome Jennifer Roller and Stephanie Shaw as new members at its September meeting.
They were inducted into the chapter in late June during a candlelight ceremony conducted by President Krishmu Shipmon and Janice L. Beachum, vice president and membership chairwoman.
The inductees were required to attend orientation workshops and pass a rigorous test before their induction. A luncheon was given in their honor afterward.
The new members will be formally introduced to the public at the Christmas gift-giving luncheon in December. Invitations will be issued.
The Links is an elite service group of more than 12,000 women nationwide that aims to promote and engage in educational, civic and cultural activities. Membership is granted by invitation only.
The Youngstown Chapter, chartered in 1955, is one of the oldest chapters in the United States; Nassau, Bahamas; and Germany.
The national organization was founded in 1946 and chartered in 1951.
Recently, several local chapter members attended the Central Area Conference in St. Louis, Mo., where Sarah Brown-Clark was elected to the Executive Council, Dr. Virginia Banks-Bright was recognized for more than 25 years of service, and the Youngstown Chapter was cited for its 56-year history of outstanding service to the community.
