BOARDMAN
The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley Success By 6 kindergarten-readiness program has received a $53,000 donation from the John S. and Doris M. Andrews Fund.
The donation was presented Wednesday at the Market Street Elementary School, the site of two Success By 6 sites in Boardman, by David Sabine, Andrews Fund senior trust officer. Sabine and Boardman schools Superintendent Frank Lazzeri visited the Success by 6 classrooms.
“Our United Way is committed to education initiatives like Success By 6 because we recognize that the success of our community’s youth is directly related to the future success of our community,” said Laura Lyden, chairwoman of the Success By 6 Advisory Committee.
The Andrews Fund recognizes that quality early learning increases success in school, graduation rates, work-force readiness, job productivity and community engagement, and is pleased to support the United Way of Youngstown and Mahoning Valley’s Success By 6 Early Childhood Initiative, Sabine said.
The local United Way sponsored Success By 6 programs in 15 area school districts this summer, said Bob Hannon, president of United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.
