Water-pressure woes
GIRARD
Girard increased the water pressure to satisfy complaints of low pressure from residents in the Royal Arms development off Sampson Road in Liberty and caused three water breaks along Churchill Road (state Route 304) that left some 200 homes in Girard without water at various times Thursday and early today.
Mayor James J. Melfi said the water pressure was increased Thursday morning, and the breaks on Churchill Road in the area of state Route 11 began occurring by midafternoon. He said water-department crews had repaired one of the breaks by early Thursday evening and would work through the night if necessary to fix the others. Melfi said he expected water service returned by this morning.
Melfi said some of the lines are 40 to 70 years old, and anytime pressure is increased, breaks are a possibility.
