Southern Park Mall is sponsoring a Community Day throughout the day Friday at the mall that will provide a venue for more than 30 local, nonprofit organizations to showcase their services and raise money for their local projects.

Participants include Boardman Township Fire Department, Akron Children’s Hospital, Hospice of the Valley, Catholic Charities, Hands-On Volunteer Network, Alchemy Acres, Rich Center for Autism, Jewish Community Center, Head Start-Mahoning Youngstown, Green Team, Northeast Ohio Adoption Services and Compass Family & Community Services.

Special meeting

West Branch Board of Education has a special meeting at 5 p.m. today to consider hiring employees. The meeting will be in the high school principal’s conference room.

The Powerstown Neighbors Block Watch meets at 7 p.m. today at New Vision New Day Church, 1970 Everett Ave. Councilman John R. Swierz, D-7th, will attend.

Robbed at gunpoint

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are looking for a group of men who robbed a 27-year-old South Side man at gunpoint.

The victim told police he was walking along Marmion Avenue at 11 p.m. Monday and had just walked past a newer dark-colored car when he was pushed in the back. He turned to see three men with guns demanding his possessions.

He told police he told the men they would have to physically take the items, but the dark-colored car pulled up and two more men pointed guns at him.

The victim said he was hit in the head with one of the guns and became dizzy. When he looked up, the car was pulling off and his cellphone, camera, bank card and money clip containing $5 were gone.

Food distribution

Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley will distribute food from its mobile pantry from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, 15096 W. Middletown Road.

Recipients will receive a pre-packaged box of nonperishable food items, and should bring photo identification.

The mobile pantry, funded by United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley, delivers food to people in Mahoning County that may not have access or transportation to a food bank member agency pantry. Second Harvest also operates a mobile pantry site at Lakeview Assembly of God in Lake Milton the first Monday of each month.

Break-in taped

NEW CASTLE, Pa.

Neshannock Township police are looking for a man who broke into Soni’s Restaurant, 3208 Wilmington Road, shortly after midnight Wednesday. According to police, the man threw a flower pot through the restaurant window, entered the business and began looking in several refrigerators and freezers. The break-in was taped on a surveillance camera. The owner later told police it appeared nothing was taken. Police are looking for a thin white man wearing light-colored clothing.
