WARREN

The Alzheimer’s Association Greater East Ohio Area Chapter is offering a program, “How to Provide for the Alzheimer’s Patient During Your Lifetime and After You Are Gone,” on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital, 1350 E. Market St., in Conference Room F.

Attorney Jack Alpern of Warren is the speaker. Alpern, a graduate of Ohio State University School of Law, teaches estate planning and coauthored “Actions and Proceedings Relating to Wills,” a legal education manual for attorneys. The program is free and open to the public. Call the Alzheimer’s Association at 800-272-3900 to register.

Annual health fair

STRUTHERS

Pilgrim Baptist Church, 67 McClure St., is having its third annual Community Outreach Health Fair on Aug. 27 from 9 a.m. to noon featuring free health screenings and information on health-related subjects. Anyone who wants to be screened for diabetes should not eat 10 to 12 hours before being tested.

A “Family Health Walk” will begin at 9 a.m., and there will be a 10-minute exercise session for those who do not wish to participate in the walk. Also, Audrey Walker of Sojourner House will speak at 9:45 a.m., and Dr. Joseph Jose of Struthers will talk about diabetes in adults and children at 11 a.m.

There will be a free lunch and free activities for children including a tour of a Struthers fire truck. Attendees may bring old usable prescription eyeglasses to be recycled through the Lions Club. For more information, call 330-755-6756.

Seeking volunteers

CLEVELAND

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, Northeast Ohio Region, is seeking “wish granting volunteers” in Columbiana, Carroll, Harrison, Holmes, Jefferson, Mahoning, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties.

Wish-granting volunteers serve as liaison between the wish family and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

People interested in volunteering must submit an application, comply with a background check and attend a training session.

Adoption classes

WARREN

Northeast Ohio Adoption Services invites people 21 and over who are considering adopting or providing foster care for a school-age child or sibling group to an Early Autumn Series of pre-placement education classes. NOAS does not charge fees to a family to adopt an Ohio child in care of the child welfare system. Children are adopted as individuals or with their brothers or sisters.

Interested singles and couples can attend classes at NOAS in Warren at 5000 E. Market St., Suite 26. Classes start Sept. 9 and end Oct. 1. For reservations, call John Hostetler at 1-800-686-6627, ext. 123, by Sept. 1.
