2nd suspect in shooting of Ohio girl surrenders

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Police say a second suspect is in custody in the death of an 11-year-old girl struck by a stray bullet that went through an outside apartment wall and killed her.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports that 25-year-old Vernon D. Singleton, of Akron, was brought to detectives by family members Monday. There was a warrant out for his arrest.

The other suspect, 18-year-old Terrance Roane, formerly of Columbus, was arrested Friday.

The two are facing murder charges in the death of Carmella Holley. The newspaper says the child was inside an apartment watching television last Wednesday when a stray bullet pierced the wall of a second-floor unit and struck her.

Police say a feud between the two men escalated into an exchange of gunfire outside the apartment.
