Doubledays blank Scrappers, take lead

AUBURN, N.Y.
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers traveled to Auburn on Sunday. They forgot to pack their bats.
Starting pitcher Brian Dupra threw two-hit ball over five innings and two Doubleday relievers combined on the shutout as Auburn dropped the Scrappers 7-0 in a New York-Penn League game.
Tony Wolters and Cody Elliott each had two hits for the Scrappers (29-21), who fell one game behind the Doubledays in the Pinckney Division standings.
Mahoning Valley holds a one-game lead on Williamsport in the wild card standings. K.C. Serna added a double in the loss.
Harold Guerrero (2-2) started for the Scrappers and lasted just 32/3 innings, giving up six runs (all earned) on five hits and five walks. He struck out three.
Will Krasne pitched the final 41/3 innings, giving up one run (a homer to Russell Moldenhauer in the fifth) on four hits, no walks and a strikeout.
Dupra (3-2) struck out one and walked one to get the win.
Christian Garcia pitched two scoreless innings, giving up four hits and no walks while striking out two.
Chad Jenkins pitched the final two innings, giving up one hit with a walk and a strikeout.
Justin Miller hit a two-run homer in the third, and drove in three runs for Auburn (30-20). Bryce Ortega and Connor Rowe each had two hits.
Mahoning Valley will play one more game in Auburn, then head to Tri-City for a three-game series.
