Boardman Eagle

Adrian A. Heston, 17, of Boardman, son of Mary Ann and Todd Heston, received his Eagle Scout award, Boy Scouting’s highest honor, at a recent court-of-honor ceremony at Boardman United Methodist Church.

Heston is a member of Troop 46, located at the church, and joined the troop in 2004. Scoutmaster is Eric Grabman. Heston earned 26 merit badges and Arrow of Light. He has served as a patrol leader.

For his Eagle Scout service project, he built an arbor bench for Boardman Park. He graduated in June from Boardman High School, where he was a member of the football team, band, orchestra and Industrial Arts Club. He received the Industrial Arts senior award. Heston is member of St. John the Baptist Church in Campbell, where he is an active altar server. He will attend Youngstown State University in the fall and major in mechanical engineering.

Eagle status awarded

Stephen DiPaolo, son of Louis and Teresa DiPaolo of Boardman received his Eagle Scout Award at a court-of-honor ceremony Saturday at St. Charles Church in Boardman.

DiPaolo has been a member of Troop 60 at Westminister Presbyterian Church since 2004. Scoutmaster is Byron Harnishfeger. He was a member of Pack 114 for six years, earning Cub Scouting’s highest honor, the Arrow of Light.

His leadership experience includes patrol leader, librarian, scribe, and chaplain aide. He has earned 22 merit badges. His awards include seven-year Service Star, fifth-year Pipestone at Seven Ranges Scout Camp, the Den Chief Service Award, and the Sourdough Award.

His Eagle Scout service project was to plan, organize and renovate the athletic equipment room at St. Charles School. The project included painting the walls, tearing out the old carpet, installing molding and new carpet, and assembling and installing storage cabinets. The renovation helped organize uniforms and athletic equipment allowing St. Charles to reduce its costs.

DiPaolo graduated this year from Cardinal Mooney High School, where he was a member of the speech and debate team, the tennis team, the marching band, Christian Service club, and the theatre department. DiPaolo will attend the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University in the fall. He is also a member of St. Charles Church.

STATE PATROL

Trooper promoted

Col. John Born, superintendent of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, has promoted Trooper William R. Bancroft of Hubbard to the rank of sergeant.

Bancroft will transfer from his current assignment at the Warren District’s Office of Investigative Services to serve as an assistant post commander at Ravenna Post.

Bancroft earned his commission in September 1988 and was assigned to the Hiram Post, where he was selected as post and district Trooper of the Year in 1991. In July 1993, he transferred to the Canfield Post.

He also served as a pilot with the Aviation Unit and as an investigator with the Warren District Office of Investigative Services. In October 2007, he received the Trooper Recognition Award for eliciting a confession that solved an 18-month-old fatal hit-skip crash.

Bancroft earned an associate of applied science degree in police science from Youngstown State University in June 1986. He and his wife, Deborah, have four children: Elizabeth, 17, Alexandra, 15, Victoria, 13, and Isabella, 5.
