Boardman, Canfield clubs win state titles

HAMILTON
Boardman Community Baseball’s 11-year-old all stars won the Ohio state Little League tournament with a 4-3 win over Tallmadge when Jarod Wilson hit a sacrifice fly to score Bryan Kordupel.
The winning pitcher was Michael Melewski, who relieved Mike Cunningham in the sixth inning.
Noah Falletti drove in the first run with a double, scoring Dominic Stilliana. Cunningham had a RBi single in the fifth, scoring Sean Buck, and Dominic Pecchia had a run-scoring double. In the sixth, Kordupel led off with a triple, then Stilliana walked and Falleti singled to load the bases. Wilson followed with his sac fly. Boardman finished 19-1 and went through the state tournament unbeaten.
Other members of the team were Bobby Toth, Evan Knaus, Luciano Cardillo and Dante Beato. Ted Melewski was the manager with coaches Tony Stilliana and Joe Cunningham.
CANFIELD 9-10 GIRLS
PORTSMOUTH
The Canfield 9-10 softball all-stars won the Little League state championship with an 8-7 win over Elyria.
Members of the team were Mary Gomez, Mallory Vaclav, Taylor Lampe, Madison Terlizzi, Jill Baker, Emerson Fletcher, Serena Sammarone, Alana Marzich, McKenna Carey and Amberly Rose. Kirk Baker was the manager and coaches were Bill Lampe, Pete Carey and Derick Fletcher.
In the championship game, Canfield scored two runs in the third inning, four runs fourth and two in the sixth. Key hits for Canfield were by Fletcher, Baker, Lampe and Terlizzi. The defense was led by Gomez, Marzich, Sammarone, Carey and Vaclav. Baker, Marzich and Lampe combined on the pitching.
WARREN AA
Sunrise Inn staved off elimination with a 7-6 win over P. I. & I. Express in game three of the Warren AA championship series. The Express holds a 2-1 series lead.
Dave Nypaver had three hits and three RBIs for Sunrise, while Nick Harper added a pair of singles. Cliff Panezich hit a double and had two RBIs. Aaron Johnston was the winning pitcher and Jeff Claar pitched an inning for the save.
The Express was led by Jason Martin, with a triple and single, and Jason Martin, with two singles. Kyren Gardner and Dave Patrick had two RBIs each.
