Golf outing benefits Poland wrestling club

The Poland Mat Club will sponsor its third annual golf outing Aug. 14 at Bedford Trails at 2:30 p.m. All proceeds support Poland’s youth, junior high and high school wrestling programs.

Entry fee for the four-person scramble is $60 per person. The fee includes a Gia Russa Italian dinner. Dinner-only tickets can be purchased for $15. Prizes will be given away after the tournament.

5K and Fun Walk set for today in Lowellville

Lowellville K-12 school is sponsoring a 5K race and Fun Walk today. The 5K starts at 9 a.m., while the Fun Walk begins at 9:15. Cost for the 5K is $20. Dry-Fit T-shirts are available while they last. Cost for the Fun Walk is $12 for adults and $8 for children under 10. Race day registration and sign in is 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.

Poland golfer wins junior tournament

Poland’s Zach Jacobson shot an 87 and parred the first playoff hole to win a two-day junior golf tournament July 19-20, sponsored by Avalon Golf and Country Club.

Day one of the event included nine holes at Avalon Lakes and day two was nine holes at Squaw Creek. Jacobson won the title in the 10-12 age division.

Mancini to play golf at Indiana

Poland High School senior golfer Maria Mancini will continue her athletic career at Indiana University in the fall of 2012.

Mancini has been part of the Poland girls golf team for four years. She was a member of the 2008 state champion team and a member of the 2009 and 2010 state runner-up squad. She has been an All-American Conference all-league selection the past three years. She was also first team Northeast Ohio Golf Coaches Association the past three years.
