The residents of Poland Shepherd of the Valley love music and are always tapping along to the beat during performances at the facility.

On July 7, however, the residents weren’t the only ones who loved to move their feet as the ladies of Rock ‘n Country Cloggers entertained at the facility.

Long-time clogger Sandra Barney served as show host at the Poland event and had a simple message before showing off the group’s dance moves.

“We hope you have fun watching us, because we have an absolute blast dancing for you. Please feel free to dance along with us,” Barney shared.

Clogging, which has roots in the traditional dances of many countries, has the dancers make percussive sounds with special tap shoes. Many clogging troops dance to traditional Irish tunes, but the Rock ‘n Country Cloggers dance to a variety of styles, which includes funk, pop, rock and country music.

For its July 7 performance, the McDonald-area clogging group added a patriotic flair to their dances and asked the residents to sing along to “God Bless America.”

Shepherd of the Valley resident Vito Marafiote appreciated the impressive skill of the dancers during the event.

“It’s very interesting to watch. That is a lot of fancy footwork,” Marafiote noted.

The Rock ‘n Country Cloggers perform in local competitions and fairs, but Barney said they love to perform at care facilities.

“It’s so nice to meet the residents and make them happy with our entertainment. They’re really appreciative and a wonderful audience,” she shared.
