Boardman Gridiron Club seeks donations
The Boardman Gridiron Club, a nonprofit organization that supports the Boardman High School football players, cheerleaders and managers, is seeking donations.
The support the Gridiron Club receives goes toward scholarships, equipment, clothing and to offset travel, food and additional expenses throughout the year.
Those interested in donating can provide various sponsorships. A Gold Sponsor requires a $500 donation (additional advertising is included). A Banner sponsor is $175 and includes a 3 foot by 6 foot banner that will be displayed at the stadium. Sponsors can donate an item for the silent or Chinese auction at the “Reverse Raffle Dinner” held at Antone’s Banquet Center on Aug. 12. Also available are “couples” tickets to the “Reverse Raffle Dinner” for $100. Ticket includes dinner for two, open bar, Chinese auction, silent auction and chance to win over $3,000 in cash prizes.

Applewood swimmers place at Penthalon
Six swimmers from the Applewood Swim Club placed in the top six in their respective events during the 2011 All-Star Pentathlon July 17 at Youngstown State.
Austin Price (8 years old) was sixth with a total time of 1:40.9. Mia Bruno (10) was fourth in the 9-10 division with a time of 4:05.05. Allison Janak (12) took second in the 11-12 event with a mark of 3:31.61. Kelsie Stutz (14) was fifth in the 13-14 division in 4:53.65. Colleen Manning (16) was fourth among the 15 and over division with a time of 4:34.55. Steven Moss (18) finished second in the boys 18 and older division (4:03.13).
Boardman Lady Hoopsters’ host annual golf outing
The Boardman Lady Hoopsters will sponsor its annual four-person scramble golf outing on Aug. 12 at Mill Creek Golf Course. Registration runs from noon to 1 p.m. with a shot gun start to follow. The cost is $75 and includes 18 holes, a riding cart, lunch at noon and dinner immediately following golf. All proceeds go to the Boardman girl’s basketball team. The Lady Hoopsters are still looking for sponsors. Sponsorships include a “Hole Sponsor” for $100, a “Champion Sponsor” for $250, a “Title Sponsor” for $500 and a “Hoopster Sponsor” for $1,000. Any donations are welcome. Make checks payable to Boardman Lady Hoopsters. Supporters will be listed in the Lady Hoopsters program and will be honored at the banquet at the conclusion of the golf event.
Applewood swim team falls to Firestone
The Applewood swim team finished the regular season with a 298-201 loss to FAST July 27 at Firestone Park in Columbiana.
Triple winners for Applewood included Austin Price, Mia Bruno, Colleen Manning, Aiden Glatz, Tyler Calpin, Steven Brooks and David Zaitzew. Double winners for the meet, winning two events each, were Tommy Mihalopoulos, Alex Price, Steven Moss and Mike Reardon. The Applewood swim team, coached by head coach Carlo Cordon and assistant coaches Kelley Manning and Mark Brooks, had a winning season with a 4-3 record.
