William J. Lauth, 39, of Warren-Burton Road, Southington, was sentenced to 10 years in prison Wednesday for committing three counts of rape against a 16-year-old girl he knew.

Lauth was indicted on six counts of rape and three counts of sexual battery, but three counts of rape and the three counts of sexual battery were dropped in exchange for his plea. Prosecutors say the rapes occurred in Warren on Aug. 28, 2010.

Judge W. Wyatt McKay of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court handed down the sentence.

Woman raped

A 32-year-old Youngstown woman told police she was raped at the Tandy Apartments on Monette Street.

The woman said the rape occurred Friday morning after she gave an acquaintance a ride there.

She said she went into an apartment with the acquaintance, then five or six men tried to get her to try some heroin.

She told police she said no, and they forcibly injected her with the drug.

She said she passed out and woke up to being raped by the man she’d driven to the apartments.

She said she passed out again, and when she woke up she tried to leave. They took her purse and phone and wouldn’t let her, she said. She said she eventually got away about 5 p.m. when no one was paying attention.

Kittens killed

new castle, pa.

Police are investigating the killing of two 12-week-old kittens.

Police Chief Tom Sansone said the animals were killed sometime Saturday.

The woman who owns them was notified while she was at work by a neighbor who found them burned in an alley near their houses on South Jefferson Street, he said.

Sansone said the investigating officer believes the kittens were killed before they were burned.

Sansone said the city’s animal-control officer is following up on the case. He said there are people of interest the police are talking to, but he doesn’t believe the suspect is randomly killing cats. He said it appears the kittens may have been killed by someone who had something against their owner.
