Fun and exercise is the goal of a new folk-dance group. Village International Folk Dancers will meet every Thursday, beginning tonight, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church Pavilion, 1025 N. Belle Vista Ave., Youngstown ($5 per session).

The Rev. John W. Harvey of the church is one of the instructors. In a news release, he noted that the Valley has a number of ethnic folk-dance groups, but they all are oriented toward occasional performances.

The new group will not only dance every week but will learn the dances of all nations, including Greece, Turkey, Israel, Bulgaria, Mexico and Macedonia. Beginners are welcome, and because many folk dances are of the circle or line variety, having a partner is not crucial.

The pavilion has a wooden dance floor and a large, lighted parking lot.
