John Kerry says he will run for Senate re-election
BOSTON (AP) — John Kerry says he is planning to run for a sixth term in the U.S. Senate and has begun fundraising for his 2014 campaign.
When asked, Kerry told reporters in Boston today, “this is the job I want. This is the job I’m enjoying doing.”
The Massachusetts Democrat also dismissed rumors he was positioning to be appointed secretary of state if President Barack Obama is re-elected in 2012.
Secretary of State Hilary Clinton has said she does not plan to stay on at the State Department for a second term. Clinton also says she is not planning a 2016 presidential bid.
Kerry was elected to the Senate in 1984 and became the senior senator for Massachusetts in 2009 after Ted Kennedy’s death.
