Gunfire investigated

Police are investigating the exchange of gunfire between a South Side resident and three men who broke into her home.
The 38-year-old Hilton Avenue woman told police she left her home just after 2 p.m. Tuesday with her 20-year-old son and was gone for about five minutes when she returned and saw a man on her porch. She said she yelled at him, and another man came from behind a neighboring house and fired three shots at her.
The woman, who has a concealed-carry permit, fired seven shots back at the man as he, the man who had been on the porch, and another man ran through rear yards.
No one was injured in the exchange of gunfire, but the woman’s car was hit.
Robbery charges

Ayasha Cummings, 25, and Jasmine Jenkins, 28, were bound over to a Mahoning County grand jury Wednesday after appearing in Area Court in Austintown on charges stemming from a Saturday attempted robbery at Walmart.
During the pretrial hearing, Jenkins, who is charged with complicity, had her bond reduced from $100,000 to $25,000.
Cummings is being held on a $100,000 bond and is charged with aggravated robbery and receiving stolen property. She is accused of stealing a Veterans Outreach donation jar containing $531.
The women were remanded to the county jail.
School supplies
WARREN
The Warren Family Mission is having a school- supplies giveaway from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 19 at its 361 Elm Road NE location.
Items will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Recipients need to have a photo identification of their child, a birth certificate or the child with them.
The Family Mission is accepting donations of school supplies at its facilities on Elm Road and 2671 Youngstown Road SE.
Items needed include filler paper and notebooks, pens and pencils, erasers, highlighters, binders, folders, bookbags and backpacks.

Internet fraud
austintown
An Austintown man is the victim of internet fraud.
A 50-year-old North Main Street resident filed a report with township police Tuesday stating a check he deposited into his bank account was counterfeit.
The victim stated that six months ago, he met a person on the Internet who claimed to be a missionary in Malaysia. On July 23, the victim received a $2,000 check from the person, who requested that the victim deposit the check into his bank account and send $1,800 to Malaysia.
The victim deposited the check made out to him from Auto Exact, J.P. Morgan Chase, Instant Cash on July 24 and waited three days before sending the requested amount by Western Union. On Monday, the victim was notified by his bank that the check was counterfeit. The matter is under investigation.
Volunteers needed
YOUNGSTOWN
Jennifer Jones of Youngstown Litter Control, Councilman Mike Ray, D-4th, and the Westside Neighborhood group are recruiting volunteers to help clean up some of the busiest areas along Mahoning Avenue from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 13.
Volunteers are to meet at Mahoning Valley Lanes parking lot, 2617 Mahoning. A pizza party sponsored by Strikers will conclude the event.
