Katy Perry makes Billboard history

Katy Perry continues her hit-filled year, as the singer has notched her fifth No. 1 single from the platinum-selling “Teenage Dream.”

With the current single “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” set to hit the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s pop chart, according to the Nielsen BDS-based pop radio-airplay ranking, the singer’s sophomore effort is the first album in the more than 15-year history of the Adult Top 40 mainstream chart to log that many No. 1 singles.

“Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” with its kooky ’80s-inspired video, joins the Kanye West-assisted “E.T.,” “Firework,” “California Gurls,” featuring Snoop Dogg, and the title track, which was ranked the fourth-best single of 2010 by Rolling Stone.

Easy Street theater workshops for kids

YOUNGSTOWN

Easy Street Productions will offer the final summer sessions of its Glee musical theater workshops.

Headed by Easy Street co-founder Maureen Collins, the classes will feature a variety of songs and dances from the hit TV show “Glee,” as well as showstoppers from Disney to Broadway.

The age-specific workshops are for children 4 and up and are for beginners as well as the more advanced. Classes will meet Saturdays Aug. 6-27 at the Easy Street Studio, 865 Mahoning Ave.

Participants will be invited to perform at Easy Street’s annual free concert at Mill Creek Park’s Morley Pavilion Aug. 17. The cost is $50.

Boardman

The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band will present its fourth annual Music In the Park with Friends at 2 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Maag Outdoor Arts Theatre in Boardman Park. The concert will also feature the Western Reserve Community Band from Hudson, playing pieces with a Spanish flavor.
