YOUNGSTOWN

A 19-year-old city man faces serious charges after reportedly snatching $100 from a female acquaintance, beating the woman and firing a gun into the air.

Police arrested James Carter of Youngstown just after 2 p.m. Monday on the city’s East Side. He is charged with carrying concealed weapons, discharging a firearm in the city limits and aggravated robbery.

A 21-year-old Warren woman told police Carter picked her up at her home in Warren to take her to the store so she could buy diapers and milk for her baby. She said she withdrew $100 from an ATM to buy the items, but Carter demanded she give him the money instead.

The woman said she and Carter argued over the money, but Carter eventually punched her in the head and took the cash. She said he then drove to Lans-downe Boulevard, where the two again argued. She told police that Carter pulled her from the car and threw her to the ground.

According to reports, Carter, with the woman in the car, pulled behind the McGuffey Plaza, where he was spotted by police. Officers found a loaded revolver with two spent shell casings inside the car.

Police then took the woman to U.S. Route 422, where she was met by a Warren police officer who took the woman home.
