Austintown police: Break-ins likely done by same person

Township police believe the same person is responsible for two burglaries and an attempted burglary that occurred on the same street.
Between midnight and 6 a.m. Saturday someone broke into the attached garages of two homes in the 4400 block of Rita Avenue, according to police reports. Nothing is believed to be missing from either residence.
Someone attempted to enter the locked garage of a third house on Rita, but was unable, a report said.
Police were alerted to the break-ins Saturday afternoon after each of the homeowners noticed damage to their garages.
Detective Sgt. Doug Scharsu said police are investigating with the belief that the same person is responsible for all three cases.
“The [incidents] happened at the same time of night, and it was the same thing,” he said.
Scharsu said police at this point have no suspects. He said the people living in that neighborhood are also at a loss for who is behind the break-ins.
“The neighbors have no idea who it could be,” he said.
