Voter turnout 'quiet' so far in special election in Boardman

BOARDMAN — The director of the Mahoning County Board of Elections described today’s special election as “quiet.”

“Some of the election machines needed service” but it did not hold up voters from casting ballots to decide the fate of a 3.85-mill, five-year additional police levy, Thomas McCabe said.

He also said turnout at the township’s 47 precincts appeared to be “very light” but added that the busiest time is usually 5 to 7 p.m. Polls are open until 7:30 p.m.

The board of elections will begin counting the nearly 2,000 completed absentee ballots when the polls close, and the final tabulation of all ballots is expected to be complete sometime after 9 p.m., McCabe added.
