REUNIONS


The Mercer County Historical Society will sponsor a one-room school countywide reunion Aug.14 at the Beringer-Caldwell One-Room School, Mercer-Greenville, Road, Mercer County, Pa. The event is free and will begin at 1 p.m. with a light lunch and music by Chuck Thorpe & Friends. Volunteers will be honored at 2, and a group photo of all former one-room school students in attendance will be taken at 2:30. The schoolhouse and Teachers’ Garden will be open until the conclusion of the event at 4 p.m. All former one-room school students, their families and friends, and anyone interested in the county’s history of education are welcome. The MCHS also will be selling CDs and DVDs of school materials from Mae Beringer’s collection at the event. Cost is $10 for the CD, which contains archive material for a single township, and $60 for the three-volume set of DVDs, containing the archives for all one-room schools in the county. Chaney High School January and June Classes of 1946 will meet for breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Denny’s in Austintown. All classmates and spouses are welcome. No reservations are needed.

Chaney High School January and June Classes of 1948 will met for lunch at 1 p.m. Aug. 9 at Davidson’s Restaurant, 3636 Canfield Road, Canfield. All alumni are invited to attend.

Chaney High School Class of 1961 will observe its 50th reunion with a series of events on the weekend of Sept. 23-25. A mixer is set for 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at Davidson’s Restaurant, 3636 Canfield Road, Canfield, with the reunion banquet planned for 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at The Fifth Season Banquet Center, 1400 Niles-Canfield Road, Mineral Ridge. Festivities conclude Sept. 25 with a breakfast at Davidson’s. Dress for the all the events is casual. Members of the East High School Class of 1954 will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Monday at TJ’s at the Holiday Inn, 7410 South Ave., Boardman. Spouses are welcome.

East High School Class of 1964 is taking reservations for a picnic reunion planned for Sept. 17 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Rotary Community Building in Fair Park, 320 Oak St., Canfield. A buffet will be served from 2 to 5.m.; no alcoholic beverages are permitted. All East High classmates of the ’60s also are invited. The cost is $20 per person. Reservations are required; no tickets will be sold at the door. Hubbard High School Class of 1956 will have a reunion at 1 p.m. Sunday at the new Kyle Pavilion in Harding Park, 249 Roosevelt Drive, Hubbard. Those attending are asked to take a main dish, salad or dessert for a potluck meal. A donation of $10 per person will be collected.

Liberty High School Class of 1981 is planning a two-day 30th reunion. On Aug. 26 alumni and their families will tour the new high school building at 6 p.m. and attend the opening game of the football season, where they will be recognized at half time. A mixer will follow at Station Square Restaurant, Belmont Avenue, Youngstown. The reunion dinner will be Aug. 27 at The Metroplex. The cost for the tour/mixer is $15 per person, and reunion dinner is $45 per person. Reservations are required by Aug. 13. Woodrow Wilson High School Class of 1971 will celebrate its 40th-year reunion over Labor Day weekend, beginning Sept. 3 when class members will meet a 1 p.m. at the Western Reserve Village at Canfield Fairgrounds for pictures and a day at the fair. On Sept. 4 the reunion dinner and dance will take place from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, 7410 South Ave., Boardman.
