Man charged with robbing, beating woman on East Side

YOUNGSTOWN — A 19-year-old city man faces serious charges after allegedly snatching $100 from a female acquaintance, beating the woman and firing a gun in the air.

Police arrested James Carter of Youngstown just after 2 p.m. Monday on the city’s East Side. He is charged with carrying concealed weapons, discharging a firearm in the city limits and aggravated robbery.

A 21-year-old Warren woman told police Carter picked her up at her home in Warren to take her to the store so she could buy pampers and milk for her baby. She said she withdrew $100 from an ATM to buy the items, but Carter demanded she give him the money instead.

The woman said she and Carter argued over the money, but Carter eventually punched her in the head and took the cash.
