Gas prices stable

Gas prices stable

YOUNGSTOWN

Ohio gasoline prices remain stable at levels about a dollar higher than a year ago.

Monday’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express puts the state’s average price for regular-grade gasoline at $3.66 a gallon, up just a penny from last week.

Motorists were paying $2.69 at this time last year.

In the Mahoning Valley, the average price for a gallon of regular-grade gasoline was $3.62 on Monday, according to AAA’s fuel-gauge report, the same price as a week ago.

Ohio pump prices soared to a record average of $4.16 for regular about three months ago, retreated a bit and then stayed in their current range.

Kasich to attend ground-breaking

LORDSTOWN

Ohio Gov. John Kasich will be in Lordstown today at the ground-breaking of the Anderson-Dubose Inc. facility.

The McDonald’s supplier is building a new multimillion- dollar, 155,000-square-foot distribution center and headquarters at Ohio Commerce Center, 5232 Tod Ave. SE.

Anderson-Dubose said it could add 100 jobs and $8 million in additional annual income to the Mahoning Valley. That number is dependent on how many employees decide to transfer from the two current Anderson Dubose locations in Solon and Carnegie, Pa.

Auto sales weak

DETROIT

Car shoppers worried about the U.S. economy last month, and that kept sales in a funk.

U.S. sales of new cars and light trucks are expected to rise only slightly in July. The weak economy and high sticker prices kept Americans from buying more. Automakers are scheduled to report last month’s sales today.

July extends a disappointing stretch for automakers after a strong start this year. Sales slowed in May and June after an earthquake in Japan cut into supplies of small cars that were in demand because of high gas prices. Those shortages — and higher car prices — turned off many buyers.
