BOOK SALES

Friends of the Warren Library’s annual book sale will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW. The sale will take place on the second floor of the main library in the Thomas Meeting Room and in the adjacent hall and conference room. Cash or checks will be accepted; there will be no credit card sales. The use of electronic scanning devices will not be permitted. The main library will not be open for business during the book sale.

A Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament will take place Sunday during the St. Patrick Church Festival at the parish center, 225 N. Main St., Hubbard. CRAFT SHOWS

Shepherd of the Valley-Poland, 301 W. Western Reserve Road, is seeking vendors for its annual Family Fall Fest & Craft Show set for Sept. 24. To rent a space call the office at 330-726-7110 ext. 0. FESTIVALS/FAIRS

Slovaks of the Mahoning Valley are having a heritage festival from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 14 on the grounds of St. Matthias Church, 915 Cornell St., Youngstown. Admission is free. The event begins with a polka Mass at 11:30 a.m. There will be entertainment by the Eddie Vallus Band, Del Sinchak Orchestra and Living Traditions folk ensemble. Dinners will be served from noon to 3 p.m. inside. Ethnic foods will be served all day outside. Also featured will be a basket auction, a gas card raffle and ethnic displays.

William Penn Fraternal Association is sponsoring its annual end-of-the-summer fest Sept. 17 at Scenic View Park, Rockwood, Pa. The event begins at noon and ends about 6 p.m. In conjunction with this all-day event, the WPA will celebrate its 125th anniversary. A special performance by the RAJKO ensemble from Budapest, Hungary, will be given. A 46-seat bus has been chartered by Youngstown Branch 28 of William Penn. The bus will depart from Boardman Red Lobster at 8 a.m. and arrive back in Youngstown about 10 p.m. The cost for the bus trip is $35 per person, which includes transportation and admission. Immaculate Heart of Mary will have a Treasures in Your Trunk sale, sponsored by its Social Concerns Group, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 10. Butler Institute of American Art has planned a four-day, three-night bus trip to Chicago from Oct. 27 through 30. Participants will stay at The Palmer House, located in the heart of the city, nicknamed “The Loop.” The hotel is within walking distance to Millennium Park, the Magnificent Mile shopping district, The Art Institute of Chicago, the theater district and more. The tour will include a visit to the residence and studio of Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) and several of the prairie-style residences that he designed, and stops at the Madron Gallery and The Art Institute. Trumbull County Travel Club is sponsoring a two-day, one-night excursion to Shipshewana, Ind., Aug. 12 and 13. The tour includes lodging at Das Dutch Essenhaus, a lunch stop at the Davis Mercantile Complex, shopping at Lolly’s and Yoder’s fabric stores, dinner, the show “Ring of Fire,” a tour of the Heritage Trail Gardens and a mystery stop on the way home.
