Butler Museum seeks docents

YOUNGSTOWN

The Butler Institute of American Art is offering classes for new docents (volunteer tour guides) beginning in September.

Anyone interested in learning about art and willing to share time and knowledge with museum visitors is qualified. Docents provide indispensable support to the operation of the museum and to the public through their understanding of the Butler collection.

Classes are Tuesday and Thursday, from 10 a.m. to noon, from September through March. Contact the Butler’s education department Tuesday through Friday at 330-743-1711, ext. 114 or email obrien@butlerart.com.

Cancer battle is theme of art show

Hermitage, Pa.

Lilly Oncology on Canvas, an art exhibition that honors the journeys traveled by people affected by cancer, will be on display Aug. 8-19 at the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon, 875 N. Hermitage Road. Lilly Oncology on Canvas began in 2004 as an international art competition for those whose lives have been touched by cancer, including those diagnosed with cancer, and their family, friends and healthcare providers. People were invited to use art as a means of expressing the struggles and successes in battling this disease.

Quaker City Band to offer concert

SALEM

The Quaker City Band will present a concert in the Waterworth Park band shell at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The band is under the direction of Robert Domencetti and assisted by John Krauss.
