New Waterford church gears up for August Overflow

Staff report

NEW WATERFORD

For the third consecutive year, Abundant Life Fellowship, 46469 state Route 46, will sponsor August Overflow, an outreach event for area residents.

Saturday’s event will feature free food, school supplies, clothing, haircuts, bounce-arounds, music, a car show, sports events and a magic show. Most of the day’s activities start at noon.

Last year, nearly 200 children from about 100 families in the region received school supplies. More than 60 people received haircuts, and hundreds of people received free food and clothing.

The school-supply giveaways, from noon to 4 p.m. and co-sponsored by The Way Station, specifically targets students in the Crestview, Columbiana, East Palestine, Leetonia, Beaver Local and Lisbon school districts along with Heartland Christian School. Parents who want to receive school supplies must bring a driver’s license showing where they live and a recent report card identifying their child’s school. The supplies are for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Students from other school districts will not be turned away but may be served only during the last hour if supplies last.

The clothing giveaways and free haircuts, also from noon to 4 p.m., are open to all. Appointments for the haircuts will be scheduled throughout the day.

Bounce-arounds will be offered around the property from noon to 5 p.m.

Food including hot dogs, burgers, sloppy joes, popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy and beverages, will be served from noon to 5 p.m. in fellowship hall.

A car show, open to all makes and models of cars, trucks and motorcycles, will run from 3 to 6 p.m., with trophies awarded at 5 p.m.

Sports events, including pickup softball, volleyball and corn-hole games, will be at various times throughout the day. Those interested in playing softball should bring their own gloves.

A magic show featuring Mark the Magnificent will be on the outdoor stage at 3 p.m. The day’s events will conclude with a concert on the outdoor stage at 5 p.m. by members of New Life Church in Louisville.

Also available during the day will be drawings for prizes, including certificates for free legal services provided by Williams & Associates of Salem, flash drives, T-shirts, hats, mouse pads and more.
